Wargyu Steaks with Vegetables Flambe*

Season 5 Julie would hate me: man, I’m really going to miss Melisandre.  It was her time, and I get it, but Bran is radio silence over here. One of the best things about Thrones is the lore and prophecy–if Melisandre is gone, Bran better step up.  I LIVED for the shot of the Dothraki riding in V-formation from an aerial view, sorts ablaze. As their flames went out in waves, I couldn’t believe it. These are the best fighters in the world–how did Samwell Tarley make it? The first few seasons, Sam was so endearing. In the words of my friend, Gretchen, though, he is kind of a “long fart” and a “loaf of bread.”  Gilly is p. cool and she deserves better.

No complaints about the episode being too dark over here–it needed to be dark, and it needed to be confusing.  It worked. . . although the last 7 minutes moved a little too quickly for me–I get that the ending had to be a surprise, but I needed to see Arya running for a bit longer.  I had to rewatch, and I liked it better the second time around. My biggest complaint is that Bran didn’t warg into anyone, and we never found out the Night King’s back story.  Could someone so important to the series’ plot really end up being so flat? I require some warging! That being said, that was one of the most stressful episodes of television I’ve ever seen, and I loved it.

Tonight, I shall will some warging; these steaks are very expensive, though, and I’m not grillmaster, so I’m shirking some of my cooking responsibilities on Adam Holt.  I am going to try to do some vegetables flambe–however, which according to the internet is both difficult and kind of dangerous. So long, eyebrows!

Wargyu Steaks

Salt & Pepper

1 – 12 oz. Wagyu Beef Steaks

Oil

Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Pull steak from oven an hour before cooking and let rest.  Season with salt and pepper. Heat a cast-iron skillet to medium-high until hot. Right before you drop the steaks, put in oil.  Sear for 30 seconds on each side. Throw in oven for 5 minutes (rare). Let sit for 8 minutes before serving

Vegetables Flambe*

*Update on original plan: we do not have a hood above our range, and I do not have vodka, so I sautéed them.  But, flambeed vegetables would be really fun, as long as if it didn’t end in the house getting burnt down.  Eyebrows are in tact.

1 head of kale, chopped

1 c. Vegetable stock

2 cloves garlic

Splash of red wine vinegar

Sautee garlic in butter.  Remove garlic before browned.  Throw in the kale along with the broth and some salt and pepper. Cook covered for 3 minutes.  Add in red wine vinegar and garlic.

That’s it! Theon’s dead and that bums me out.  I hope Tyrion gets his shit together. I have Lady Sansa continues to be the best forever and ever.  Dany can go now. Only two more episodes left! I put together a funeral pyre last week and barely had any use for it.  Lighting it up again tonight because you know they’re going to slide in a bunch of sneak-up deaths tonight.
