So many directions that I could have taken with recipes tonight. Spotted Dickon? Something charred? Kraft spirals?
I’m normally not into watching all the GOT Easter Egg videos, but I saw this one, and I’m kind of on board. Like, there’s no way that isn’t Catelyn Stark, right? If Lady Stoneheart comes back, part of me would be like, “ok cool,” but, then again, what would the point be? Arya already killed at the Freys and they’re all safe and sound with Brienne. Maybe that scene was nothing, but it definitely grabbed my attention.
You know what else grabbed my attention? Dany burning hundreds of Lannisters alive. I don’t have a good feeling about where this Dany storyline is going, and I honestly think that Cirsei is more likable than the Mother of Dragons. That being said, the special effects for “The Spoils of War” were fan-tastic, and those ‘splosions looked great—much better than the hokey special effects we saw when the Citadel blew up. To commemorate Dany’s swift descent to the dark side, I’m going to make a smoked cheddar and roasted vegetable egg bake (with tabasco, of course).
Smoked Cheddar & Roasted Vegetable Egg Bake
Adapted from Little Spice Jar
About 2 lbs. potatoes, shredded
Chopped red onion
2 bell peppers, any color, chopped
8 oz. sliced mushrooms
1 c. raw spinach
Handful of cherry tomatoes, cut in half
1/3 cup cream or milk
3+ tbsp. Tabasco
1 c. freshly shredded smoked cheddar
Preheat oven to 375. Heat 2 tbsp. of olive oil in large frying pan. Generously season potatoes with salt and pepper and firmly press on bottom of the pan. Cook for about 10 minutes and flip, adding more oil as you do. Cook for 10 more minutes, browning the potatoes. Add in onion and peppers and cook for about five minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes, cooking about five minutes more and adding a bit more salt, if necessary. Take off heat and stir in spinach. Spread mixture evenly over the bottom of an 11×13 pan.
In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, salt and pepper, and tabasco, to taste (about 3 tbsp.). Pour evenly on top of veggie mixture. Sprinkle cheese on top of mixture and bake for about 45 minutes, or until nice and browned on top.
The re-emergence of Dickon was great, and I’m so glad they recast a hotter, more lovable dude. I think Dickon is going to play a more prominent role this season and possibly make amends with Sam. Tim Paluch bet me $5 that Dickon is dead by 8:21 tonight: “Dickon is so dead. There is no other explanation as to why they gave him so much positive airtime next week. He’s going to get burnt the fuck up for sure.” Disagree, Tim Paluch. Can’t wait to have a fresh Abraham in my pocket tomorrow!
Julie’s Bold Predictions: I think this is the third week in a row that I’ve said this, but Littlefinger has to die. Arya knows he’s bad news. Bran knows he’s bad news. Brienne knows he’s bad news. Dude’s gotta go. Jaime is going to have a really bad day. Drogon will be just fine. Bronn might be toast. Ghost is back.
Adam Holt’s Bold Prediction. Brienne rides up on a direwolf and gives Tormund a big smooch. Then she kills some white walkers.
Josh Dreyer’s Bold Prediction: Drogon will go through puberty and grow a patchy dragon bear. Poderick will save everyone from impending doom.
Adam Lackey’s Bold Prediction: I think that something like this is going to happen.
Phil Schriver’s Bold Prediction: Whitewalkers see The Wall for the first time and give up in defeat.
Wish me the best of luck on my Dickon bet! I’ve got a good feeling about this one. If he makes it through, I really will make spotted dick next week.
